Another bunch of amazing vintage shoes from the 1920s to the 40s from my Pinterest vintage shoe board. The colour and vibrancy of the styles match anything we have today.

Yes, summer is here again…for those of us in the Southern Hemisphere anyway. You wouldn’t know it was summer today here in Perth though as it is currently 16C and raining! Just the way I like it 😉 Here is a group of wonderful old Aussie travel prints from the 1920s and 30s. Of course, the graphic designer in me can’t help love the Art Deco influence in some of them. Enjoy.

Hi all! I have just added a load of new items to my shop. I recently came across 4 pairs of fantastic vintage shoes and several of them are deadstock items that have never been worn. Three of the pairs are from the 50s and the other is from the 40s. I still find it amazing whenever I come across vintage items that have never been worn or used since the day they were purchased, so I hope these find a good home 🙂 I also picked up 2 deadstock 1960s mens tiki style shirts, two 1920s hair combs, an amazing 1950s ‘atomic design’ silk scarf, a 1930s crocheted purse and collar with glass beads. I also have some 50s earrings, an Art Deco buckle from the 30s, 50s handbag and a vesta case from around 1890. Enjoy!
* All items are linked back to the Etsy store.
I just discovered a book called ‘Vintage Hotel Labels from the Collection of Gaston-Louis Vuitton’ by Francisca Mattéoli, showcasing some of the collection of over 3000 hotel labels hoarded by Gaston-Louis Vuitton at the start of the 20th century. These labels were stuck to baggage by hotel staff and travel agents for advertising purposes. To me they always signify great adventure and the fanciful sojourns of holiday-makers of the past. I have added some of my own favourites, mostly from the 1920s and 30s.
The book is available here.
For all my readers that are fans of Art Deco design and the fashion 1920s and 30s, I have several boards full of my visual collects over at Pinterest that I add to on a daily basis. You are welcome to follow me there 🙂

I was pulling out some of my books on vintage photography recently and was reminded of how much I love Edward Steichen. I adore his simple lines and the way uses shadow and light. Steichen’s photos of gowns designed by Paul Poiret in the magazine Art et Décoration in 1911 are some of the very first modern fashion photographs and he helped define an era of glamour and elegance. Along with fashion work, he also photographed stunning portraits of movie stars and well-known faces of the day including Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Charlie Chaplin, Gloria Swanson, Norma Shearer, Greta Garbo, Anna May Wong, Pola Negri, Loretta Young, Lilian Gish, Amelia Earhart and Joan Crawford. Hope you enjoy these classic images.
