1920s & 30s bridge card design

I love the graphics on 1920s-1930s Bridge Tally cards. These elaborately designed (and often die-cut) cards were used to keep score in Bridge games and you will find them printed in numerous themes and patterns. I still find it incredible that such vibrant colour and detail went into items that were used only for a short time then thrown away. Amazingly stylish and designed with Art Deco elements, the tally cards really are worth collecting. Here is a group of my favourites. If you want to collect your own, many are for sale on Etsy and Ebay.

More pin curl & finger wave techniques

Hello 1930s fans! I came across another pin curl an finger waving article today. I hope this will help you recreate the look of 1930s curls and waves  if you have been struggling.

Recreating 20s and 30s finger waves

Wonderful video and very authentic 30s waves. This shows exactly why most women in the day had their hair set in salons weekly, maintained it themselves at home but then went back for re-setting. There are a lot of tutorials about waves and ‘easy’ techniques, but they never get the ‘real’ look of the 30s correct. To really get an authentic wave it takes time and multiple steps, which is captured beautifully here.

I blogged about this here as well…the curling first and then setting the waves after using brushing out and then wet setting techniques.
