If you are lover of vintage fashion and tying the knot, you may want to wear a vintage or ‘vintage inspired’ gown from your favourite era. Bridal Fashion 1900-1950 – The American Wedding dress (Kathleen York, Shire Publications, $13.40 at Booktopia) takes readers on an elegant journey back in time through American bridal fashion from the first half of the 20th Century marking the changes that economics, popular culture, and even politics have made to style over the years.

I just discovered a book called ‘Vintage Hotel Labels from the Collection of Gaston-Louis Vuitton’ by Francisca Mattéoli, showcasing some of the collection of over 3000 hotel labels hoarded by Gaston-Louis Vuitton at the start of the 20th century. These labels were stuck to baggage by hotel staff and travel agents for advertising purposes. To me they always signify great adventure and the fanciful sojourns of holiday-makers of the past. I have added some of my own favourites, mostly from the 1920s and 30s.
The book is available here.
I have five glorious pairs of 1940s (some maybe very early 50s) for sale in the shop this month. All fine examples of the many shoe styles that were available at the time. One pair is pretty much deadstock and comes with it’s original box, dated 1944. My favourite is the beaded shoes with the plastic vamp. Very elegant. If my shoe size wasn’t an 8.5 I’d be keeping two of these pairs for myself!
Hi all. I have a bumper load of new items in the shop this month ranging from pairs of 1920s and 40s deadstock stockings, 30s knitting books and childs tie, 40s hat, necklace and evening dress, 50s cocktail dress, house dress, purses, earrings and gloves and a 60s evening dress and shoes. All the items are linked back to the shop page. Enjoy 🙂
